Position Overview

The Trimmer is responsible for the production of good quality parts following the operating process.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have a High School Diploma or equivalent, Trade School and/or technical training, and prior experience in a manufacturing environment. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Essential Job Functions

The job duties listed below are the fundamental job duties of this position. Failure to perform any one of these duties would substantially alter the nature of the position.

  • Support the operator when needed by getting supplies or servicing the machine to set cycles
  • Understand the trip process sheets provided for each job, and report any discrepancies to supervisor or lead
  • Properly handle parts to avoid damage to the product
  • Trim the flash line on all molded parts
  • Drill holes and insert gaskets and plugs per work instructions
  • Ensure quality of finished product by conducting inspection process on all parts that are started during the shift
  • Pressure test specified products as stated on work instructions
  • Set up and operate hand tools, power drills, routers, fixtures, propane tanks and torches in a safe and efficient manner
  • Return tools, materials, molds and other equipment to their proper storage areas when not in use
  • Record rejected parts and properly remove from the production area to the scrap area
  • Communicate effectively with prior shifts as well as the molder and help when necessary to keep machines running efficiently
  • Appropriately stock production materials
  • Organize and clean work area
  • Cross-train in assembling products based on work instructions

The Trimmer must understand and perform to standard the following aspects related to this position:

  • Adherence to safety practices while performing trim operations
  • Quality standards for orders/parts (refer to the work instructions)
  • Critical dimensions and requirements of each part of secondary operations
  • Appropriate inserts and trimming requirements for parts being handled

Marginal Functions

  • Seek and perform alternate, productive tasks to keep busy during unexpected down time
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require using fingers to handle objects, tools and controls. Continuous wrist and finger movement for carrying and using equipment, tools (working with small bolts, nuts, screws, adding inserts, flushing out parts, flaming parts) etc. Generally, the job requires 90% standing and 10% lifting. The employee may be required to push and/or pull up to 60 pounds; lift and/or carry 40 pounds. Required standing, working at a rapid speed, twisting, bending, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, reaching and grasping up to 8+ hours per day. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with others. The noise and temperature level are above average, or commensurate with a typical manufacturing environment. The employee may be exposed to solvents when part cleaning, acids/corrosives when cleaning floors, dust dirt, fumes/vapors/gases from plastics processes, ovens and propane tanks. Specific vision abilities required by this position include clear vision at 24 inches or less, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
