Head Start / Early Head Start Lead Teacher

The Education Staff includes Lead Teachers, Teachers, Classroom Assistants and Substitutes. These positions are responsible for collaborating and working with the teaching staff, following daily lesson plans, applying Early Childhood Development theory to daily classroom activities and maintaining a safe environment for the children.

QUALIFICATIONS  Head Start / Early Head Start Lead Teacher
  • Associate’s Degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education or equivalent is required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience working with children, preferred.
  • Ability to regularly stand, walk and sit in the floor.
  • Excellent communication skills with adults and children.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word & Excel.
  • Valid Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness and ability to obtain license.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification at hire or within the first 6 weeks of hire (training provided).
  • SPII B-K license, preferred.
  • Bi-Lingual, English/Spanish skills are beneficial.
RESPONSIBILITIES Head Start / Early Head Start Lead Teacher
  • Projects a positive and respectful attitude with the children, families and other staff.
  • Facilitates open communication.
  • Establishes and maintains a secure trusting relationship by meeting physical, emotional and cognitive needs of the children.
  • Obtains a strong understanding of the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Plans and implements the weekly lesson plan for the classroom which includes the domains of learning outlined in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
  • Designs and implements planned activities to promote learning within the regular daily routines.
  • Conducts formal reviews of each child’s progress with parents/guardians three times a year.
