The Healthier Generation Coordinator works with Sullivan 180 leadership and the Healthier Generation Council to implement initiatives and programs for the school based Empowering a Healthier Generation (EHG) Program.

The Healthier Generation Coordinator provides support to Sullivan County public schools and BOCES that are participating in the EHG Program; and acts as a liaison between the school and Sullivan 180. Their focus is on assisting school based Healthier Generation (HG) Advisors in developing building-based initiatives that advance their school district’s wellness policy.

The Healthier Generation Coordinator must exhibit the skills to collaborate with a diverse community of stakeholders and partners; the ability to achieve actionable results through others, and the commitment to build strong and sustainable relationships. This individual must also possess a sincere passion for children, school wellness and changing health outcomes for our youth.

The Healthier Generation Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the promotion of the EHG program among schools and partner organizations. This responsibility will include evening and weekend commitments such as presentations at parent-teacher organizations, community partner board meetings, committee events and Sullivan 180 hosted programs.

Essential Functions

The job duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Programmatic:

  • Work with the Director of Health and Wellness and other staff to facilitate the EHG School Program, including training, stipends, awards, and regular Council meetings.
  • Collaborate with the School District Wellness Coordinators and school based Healthier Generation Advisors. Attend district wellness committee meetings.
  • Build strong and sustainable relationships with Sullivan County schools and BOCES, their staff, administrators, parents, and students.
  • Work with HG Advisors to develop and facilitate their building based Healthier Generation committee encouraging diverse representation from across the school community including staff, parents, and youth.
  • Attend HG Committee meetings.
  • Assist Healthier Generation Advisors in the review and evaluation of their school district wellness policy.
  • Help HG Advisors identify initiatives that advance the goals of their District Wellness policy and add to the health and wellness of students, faculty and staff.
  • Coach and mentor school-based Healthier Generation Advisors & Committees, from HG Application preparation, through grant review, implementation, and final reports.
  • Monitor projects and build relationships through site visits and assisting with school events, when applicable.
  • Collaborate with School District Wellness Coordinators and whenever possible attend District Wellness Committee meetings.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings offered by the Sullivan Healthier Generation Council.
  • Work closely with the organizations of the School Resource Committee.

Administrative:

  • Coordinate MOUs & stipend payments for Advisors of schools on caseload.
  • Facilitate the grant application process with Advisors and committees.
  • Prepare grant applications and present at grant review meetings.
  • Participate in grant review.

General:

  • Act as a positive and motivated leader who can inspire and challenge the school-based Healthier Generation Advisors & Committees.
  • Foster a climate of inclusivity, acceptance, and affirmation among youth, families, and staff in keeping with Sullivan 180’s values and non-discrimination policies.
  • Represent Sullivan 180 in the community through partnerships and committees.
  • Participate in regular Sullivan 180 staff meetings and program development.
  • Remain abreast of industry trends, techniques, and equipment; share that knowledge with the schools, organization, and community.
  • Research best practices and models that can be replicated in support of the program (i.e., RWJ What Works for Health).
  • Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.
  • Support Sullivan 180 events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or other applicable field.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • Former experience in school settings preferred.
  • Ability to drive and access to reliable transportation to travel throughout the county, regularly visiting school buildings and attend meetings.
  • Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Familiarity with Sullivan County schools, agencies and organizations preferred.
