Job Summary:
To supervise and assure the smooth, safe flow and functioning of the Distribution Center in order to meet transport schedules, shipping product with accuracy, utilizing the most cost-efficient means.
To be committed to continuous improvement of our products and to ensure that we are in compliance with all food safety regulations and governmental standards. Ensure that policies and procedures are followed which are critical product safety, legality and quality.
This position reports to the Plant Manager and works closely with the Distribution Manager.
Main Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains strict Good Manufacturing Practices (G.M.P.’s), sanitation and safety standards. Investigates on-the-job accidents, assures compliance with Company policies and procedures.
- Trains, motivates and develops personnel; schedules and supervises personnel efficiently, keeping overtime to a minimum; avoids duplication of work assignments; reviews all job bids; completes all necessary paperwork for shipping, payroll and human resources.
- Complies with provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, (if applicable) including rules and regulations, assignment of overtime and attendance procedures. Firm, fair and consistent supervision of all associates.
- Maintains accuracy standards (setting up a system that gives each associate specific tasks, that they are held accountable for). Documentation and discipline when standards are not met.
- Communicates with the Plant Manager on all problems to insure efficient operation.
- Establishes a shipping schedule that coordinates loading times with the transport schedule. Communicates with the Transportation Department on a regular basis to assure that sales needs are met.
- Maintains a highly organized work environment, including daily processing and shipment of freight and supplies. Everything needs a place, so that associates spend their time working, not looking for materials.
- Maintains the security of the Distribution Center, making sure that the plant is secure at all times so that our associates are working in a safe place.
- Responsible for reporting all known building and equipment problems to the plant engineer and follow up to ensure that the problems have been corrected quickly and efficiently.
- Responsible for reporting trailer issues to the transportation department or the garage to ensure corrective actions are taken and repairs are made. Reports to quality assurance and all shipping supervisors when a trailer is taken out of service and once the trailer is again made compliant reports to prior stated parties when it is returned to service.
- Maintains a positive attitude and professional work image.
- Communicates and cooperates with other departments and other Bakeries, keeping in mind Smooth and efficient operations are the keys to increase product quality and maintain our high standards of excellence that our customers demand.
- Communicates with the sales force and distribution centers when shortages, mis-ships, or other errors occur, and actions taken to correct said issues. This needs to be done in a timely manner to allow the affected parties to take steps to satisfy all involved.
- Be alert of ways to improve accuracy and efficiency in the department, meeting of transport schedules, and reduction of operating cost.
Qualifications:
- Must be fluent in all computer usages and applications. Working knowledge of Outlook, Amnet and SAP is crucial to this position. Receiving in and accounting for outside purchase items, transferring product from the plant to the branches and accounting for stock whether it is freezer or plant related must all be completed with accuracy daily in SAP. Outlook is needed for all forms of communications between all departments. Amnet and SAP are used daily to generate all needed shipping reports and to provide information when adjustments are made at the plant and shipping level.
