What does a Job Coach/ Independent Living Skills (ILS) Specialist do?

As a Job Coach/ILS Specialist, your role is to guide people to greater independence personally and in the community through practical job training and living skills. 

We seek passionate specialists to assist supported individuals who receive our services by teaching them vocational, social, and self-advocacy skills while in their place of employment or community. This position is part-time to start (8-15 hours then working up to 25 hours a week) with the potential to be part-time with benefits at 35 hours a week in the future.
 
The specialist will be responsible for:
  • Providing job coaching to individuals while they perform their duties in their community internship or place of employment. 
  • Supporting individuals with learning new tasks and navigating professional boundaries and relationships.
  • Supporting staff team members with job coach training. 
  • Supporting with independent living skills in meal preparation, money management, and living space maintenance.
  • Encouraging social, recreational, and mobility skills by connecting to the community.
  • Acting as a liaison between community business partners and Mains’l by providing job coaching and inclusive community training. 

The skills the specialist should have include:
  • Clear oral and written communication.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to identify, understand, or learn various learning styles and apply this to knowledge on an individual basis.
  • Dependable/ time management skills to make sound decisions while out in the field.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills.
  • Basic technology skills.
  • Adaptable to various environments.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Pre-employment requirements:
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Ability to pass a background check through the Department of Justice (DOJ).
  • Safe and reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Ability to pass a driving record check.   
  • TB (Tuberculosis) Skin Test


Benefits:

Pay Scale: 
Starting rate: $17.00 per hour ($17.25 after 90 days and completion of new hire training).
Maximum Pay Rate: $18.75 per hour based on years of experience at Mains'l.
