Disability Rights Advocate

Full-Time

Annual Salary: $37,849.50

Status: Non-Exempt

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Learn and remain informed of disability regulations, policies, and community resources to provide information, referrals, and educational services.
  • Assist people with disabilities develop independent living goals/skills and encourage self-advocacy skills; Facilitate group activities.
  • Engage in outreach, presentations, and activities promoting disability rights and services on the local, state, and federal level.
  • Learn or have knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessibility improvement, the Independent Living Movement, Social Security Administration, Department of Social Servies, disability rights legislation, educational advocacy including: IDEA/504 Plan / IEP process, and benefit programs: such as Medicaid, SNAP, HEAP.

Education:

  • A College Degree is preferred; a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Related experience may be considered in lieu of higher education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Two years of experience working with people with disabilities.
  • Experience working with either aging populations/senior services, or youth services/educational advocacy.
  • Computer skills, including Outlook and Microsoft programs.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
