Position Title: Assistant City Traffic Engineer

Tell me more.....The purpose of this position is to complete advanced professional traffic engineering work requiring extensive knowledge of traffic control and traffic engineering principles. Acts as a point contact for Development review and projects. Acts as project manager for traffic-related CIP projects; manages staff, schedules, and consultants; research information; works with outside agencies; schedules and assigns staff tasks; updates traffic networks; researches ordinance information; recommends changes; works with divisions and departments; investigates complaints; conducts field work; and represents the City and department in meetings and on committees.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with supervisory experience;
• Has extensive knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD);
• Knowledge of other federal traffic engineering guidelines, state statutes, and regional best practices in traffic engineering;
• Experience in development processes and review. access management, and Planning and Zoning process;
• Comfort speaking with the public and before boards and have the ability to answer complex traffic engineering questions to a general audience;
• The ability to be a detail-oriented problem solver who enjoys identifying safety concerns and developing creative solutions. Our preferred candidate would have a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certificate.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, a closely related engineering field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Minimum of five years related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.
• Licenses Or Certificates: Registered Professional Engineer required upon hire with preference to Arizona registration. Valid AZ Driver's License upon hire. PTOE preferred but not required.
