Job Description

Summary

The Garland School is hiring a one-to-one aide to support a child’s inclusion within the group environment. Responsibilities include implementing strategies determined by teachers and specialists to meet a young child’s behavioral needs to enable them to access the general curriculum more fully. The child is four years old, turning five in early spring. The child needs intensive support around being physically gentle with their body toward other children and objects when they feel an impulse or experience a trigger.

The one-to-one aide will work approximately 6.5 hours/day with their assigned child. Much of this time will be within the larger group during outdoor play and indoors for lunch and indoor/outdoor transitions. They will spend part of the day hosting a small play group indoors that includes their assigned child. They will spend rest time and some transition times with the child.

One aspect of this role is exposure to Waldorf-inspired, nature-based work with young children, including teachers taking a reserved role in the classroom and being outdoors in all weather. Successful candidates will be able to embrace these conditions and practices.
