Job Description

Summary Of Position

Responsible for all functional operations of the sites manufacturing and packaging operations. Ensures manufacturing production schedules are met within budget. Develops the strategy for meeting operational goals and contributes to overall Plant strategy. Has full budgetary responsibility for the manufacturing operations. Works closely with top Division executives on issues of major importance to the business. Broad expertise with impact across businesses and functions. Ensure that functional strategy is executed effectively through organizational plans and policies, linked closely with other functions. Responsible for development of tactical execution plans and strategies. Serves as a mentor to other leaders within the site in providing guidance on a wide range of topics and issues.

Essential Functions

Customer Driven Manufacturing Capability that Consistently Meets Standards for Quality, Safety, & Cost.
  • Uses documented quality standards and required product safety norms to plan and execute production plans to meet current and future requirements, including product and delivery standards.
  • Represents Operations in the S&OP process to ensure production plans meet current and future requirements, and reflect non-commercial activities that would impact the production schedule.
  • Targets business activities against strategic priorities to achieve maximum quality, cost and customer service. Drives assessment and upgrading of equipment in pursuit of continuous improvement.
  • Maintains communication between Business Development, Supply Chain and the Operations group to ensure that orders are filled, and that product meets needs in terms of quality, quantity, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Leads change management for system improvements to reduce errors, minimize cost and increase efficiency.
  • Partners with quality leadership to ensure good quality and GMP practices, etc., and their implementation.
  • Participates in new business technical feasibility assessments by participating in the preparation and review of customer proposals.
  • Facilitates the success of new product launches by leading the manufacturing strategy for onboarding new projects/products.
  • Drives Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing philosophy and practices.
  • Partners with other plant leaders and collaborates to find the best possible solution and best practices.

  • Optimal Use of, and Return on Production Resources
  • Develops and manages variable budgets for plant production operations based on the inputs of sales and new business development plans and the current and expected efficiencies within plant operations. Sets expenditure priorities in accordance with the department budget and current business initiatives.
  • Carefully plans the utilization of materials and other resources to minimize waste and obtain optimal returns on assets employed.
  • Ensures development of operational systems and processes to optimize performance, reduce cycle times, production costs, and drive OEE improvements. (Lean Manufacturing).
  • Responsible for expense control, including the reduction of labor and overhead costs utilizing continuous improvement techniques.
  • Oversees annual manufacturing budget.
  • Directs work priorities and time-lines and allocate resources to assure overall goals and time-lines are met.
  • Reviews and oversees Manufacturing 5 year Master Plan.
  • Effectively negotiates with executives and other key stakeholders to ensure growth and profitability of the business.


Production Capability Meets Future Requirements
  • Translates the company strategy into multi-year operational strategies that anticipates the evolution and future of the business and how the Production organization must adapt to these changes in order to gain and sustain competitive advantage.
  • Implements and oversees multiple projects, and works effectively through subordinate managers to ensure timely completion of projects and initiatives.


Minimum Requirements

Education / Experience/Skills:

Education:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience within the pharmaceutical industry. Master's degree preferred.


Experience:
  • Minimum of ten years manufacturing leadership experience, including at the Focus Factory Management level. Management experience in a cGMP/FDA environment is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' previous Pharmaceutical Manufacturing experience preferable in a solid dose environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a fast paced manufacturing environment to drive results.
  • Multi-functional management experience in at least two of the following disciplines: Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and R&D


Skills:
  • Has in depth knowledge of compliance with GMP, DEA, FDA, ICH, EPA and other pertinent regulations/guidance documents
