How you make a difference:

The Mental Health Clinician is a Masters prepared clinician (LMFT/LCSW/LPCC) who works under the supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed health professional. They play a key role in the clinical and educational training component of the Restoration of Competency (RTC) program, utilizing cognitive remedial or restructuring techniques to teach legal concepts and help inmates understand their own legal situations in compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Additionally, the Clinician provides therapeutic support to patients, fostering mental stability in relation to competency restoration.

Key Responsibilities:
Adhere strictly to DSH and corporate policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all guidelines and regulations related to the duties of the Clinician/Competency Trainer.
Conduct daily individual sick calls, as well as psycho-educational groups for mentally ill and IST patients, following the Department of State Hospital policies for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Collaborate with the Sheriff's Office and foster positive relationships between staff and Sheriff's Deputies/Officers, while actively participating in the development and updating of treatment plans in multi-disciplinary Treatment Team meetings.
Provide individual clinical contacts with patients to support psycho-social progress related to competency, utilizing various techniques such as cognitive-behavioral approaches and anger/anxiety management.
Coordinate discharge planning and aftercare plans, document all findings in patients' records, and facilitate group training and education sessions using creative and multimodal formats, including discussions, readings, videos, and role-playing.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

Master’s Degree with associated licensure as a LMFT, LCSW, LPC or Associates Number with CA BBS or related discipline

Experience

Preferred, one + years’ experience as an LMFT, LCSW, LPC or related discipline

Licenses/Certifications

LMFT, LPC, or LCSW (preferred) or Associates Number with CA BBS

Compliance

Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA.
