Veterinarian

The Clinic in Livingston, Texas is actively seeking a Veterinarian for our low cost, nonprofit,  spay/neuter and wellness practice. All applicants must have a valid, active license to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Texas. Recent graduates from Veterinary School are encouraged to apply.

The Clinic only provides services for cats and dogs.  All services are available to the general public and the SPCA of Polk County animals.  We offer two days devoted exclusively to spay/neuter surgeries and one day of Wellness Services each week.  The surgery days are Thursdays and Fridays and Wellness Services are on Saturday.  The work hours are 9am – 4pm each day. This position does not require availability during the evenings, major holidays, or for emergencies.  If you are looking for a position that is low-stress working with a team of dedicated individuals who truly care about animal welfare, this would be the perfect opportunity. 

Responsibilities:

·         Examine animals and determine their health status

·         Diagnose illnesses and determine the best treatment

·         Perform minor dental extractions as part of a spay/neuter surgery

·         Spay and neuter cats and dogs

·         Vaccinate animals to prevent disease

·         Prescribe medication

·         Advise pet owners on nutrition, preventative healthcare and general care

·         Update animal care records

Skills

·         Experience performing spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and health checks

·         Knowledge of medical equipment (e.g. ultrasound) and anesthetic procedures

·         Problem-solving skills

·         Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions using simple language

The Clinic began operation in 2023 under the SPCA of Polk County has served the community as the only no-kill animal shelter in our area since its incorporation in 1980. Although Polk County is primarily a rural area containing several smaller communities, the area has a lot to offer for visitors and residents.   The Clinic is located minutes away from Lake Livingston, the Sam Houston Natural Forest, the Naskila Casino on the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation, and many other local attractions.
