Description

Responsible for ensuring the safety of the patrons in the swimming area. Lifeguard positions require certification and qualifications.
Examples of Duties

LIFEGUARD ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers: Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe actions.
  • Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.
  • Maintains order in swimming areas.
  • Inspects facilities for cleanliness.
  • Cleans and refills swimming pool.
  • Determines chlorine content and pH value of water, using water testing kit.
  • May conduct or officiate at swimming meets.
  • May give swimming instructions
  • Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times, both in uniform and in hygiene.
  • Set up and prepare for parties.
  • Stock all soda machines.
  • Responsible for calling emergency services as needed.
  • Receive, count, balance and transport deposits of all cash receipts to the Front Desk when responsible for concessions.
  • Attend staff meetings and required training.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by the Aquatics Director.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Current High School student or graduate.
  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Successful completion of Certified Lifeguarding classes.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid

Supplemental Information

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess or be willing to learn pool emergency signals.
  • Possess or be willing to learn pool equipment and maintenance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a pool setting.
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Hold and grip objects.
  • Frequent sitting, but may involve walking or standing when working Concessions.
  • Strong swimmer preferred.
