POSITION TITLE: Outpatient Child and Adolescent Therapist (JJC position)

DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Valley Counseling Services, Children's Office

REPORTS TO: Clinical Supervisor

SCHEDULE: Full Time and Part Time available (3 Days per week on-site at Trumbull County Family Court, Juvenile Division.)



GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The youth of today face a multitude of challenges including pressures from school, social media, peers and families that are many times compounded by their own individual journey's with their mental health. That's why our office-based Outpatient Therapists and Court based Therapist provide a variety of therapies to clients such as art, music, skill building and telehealth to name a few, in addition to traditional counseling and behavioral health therapies. We understand the importance of having a therapist that is passionate about helping our youth to become the best version of themselves that they can be. We understand the importance of providing therapeutic and consultation services (on site) at the Juvenile Court to support Court staff and youth who become in contact with the Juvenile Court.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide a welcoming atmosphere of trust, acceptance, and hope for all clients.

2. Display respect for cultural differences, beliefs and values, while integrating information related to cultural traditions and values into each client's unique and individualized treatment.

3. Conduct individual and small group therapy.

4. Conduct individual counseling/therapy to Court youth in (JJC) Detention when requested.

5. Administer Prevention programs identified by the court Administrator to the Court youth population when requested.

6. Conduct assessments and evaluations to establish appropriate treatment goals and objectives for clients.

7. Complete all request for Evaluations in accordance with the time signified by the Juvenile Court.

8. Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans that incorporate evidence based practice that is appropriate for each client.

9. Provide guidance to facilitate clients' normal growth and development, and aid in their understanding of their treatment plan and diagnosis, if appropriate.

10. Demonstrate knowledge of current standards for case notes and timeliness.

11. Demonstrate appropriate de-escalation skills when needed.

12. Consult with our team comprised of therapists and medical staff.

13. Provide clinical consultation with Court staff including Probation Officers and Detention personal with youth served by the Court when requested.

14. Provide case management consultation with court staff and Probation officers regarding youth served by the Court.

15. Conduct crisis management consultation to Court staff, Probation Officers and Detention personal when requested.

16. Conduct crisis intervention to the Court population and the Detention population when requested.

17. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

18. Other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability if

applicable.

2. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of

Criminal Identification & Investigation) if applicable.

3. Experience in serving youth in the Juvenile Court system preferred but not necessary.


MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

LPC or LPCC or LSW or LISW. Master's degree required

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Strong diagnostic skills and knowledge of effective behavioral intervention strategies.

2. Excellent communication skills and relationship-building skills to help work with the client, parents and/or guardian, as well as referral sources.

3. Excellent communication and consultation skills to Juvenile Court personal.

4. Experience providing therapy to children and families preferred.

5. Experience with trauma, drugs and alcohol treatment and assessments.
