Position Overview

The C ounter Sales Representative is responsible for assisting c ustomers and c ontra c tors with the sales pro c ess by taking orders over the c ounter , answering questions, and re c eiving payment for c ustomer orders. This position typi c ally works in a retail environment.

Essential Job Duties

  • Greet and intera c t in a positive manner with c ustomers. Assists with questions regarding mer c handise, lo c ation of mer c handise in store, pri c ing, and pro motions.
  • Pro c ess c ustomer sales through use of c ash register. Re c eive payment by c ash, c he c k, c redit c ards, vou c hers, or automati c debits and pro c esses a c c ording to c ompany standard pro c edures.
  • Pro vide initial response to c ustomer inquiries regarding pro du c t sele c tion, pla c ement of orders, requests for pri c es and quotations, c omplaints and s c heduling of deliveries and ins tallations, and pro viding c ustomer follow-ups.
  • Fa c ilitate pro du c t sele c tion of s c heduled and walk-in showroom c ustomers, using pro per forms to assure c onsistent re c ords of sele c tions.
  • Pur c hase spe c ial pro du c t s and obtain information on pri c ing spe c ifi c ations, uses, and availability.
  • Attend assigned training and meetings as required to in c rease knowledge of entire pro du c t offering.
  • C reate a c c urate and c omplete invoi c es, work orders, and sales ti c kets. C ode and input c ustomer orders, pri c ing information, and ad ditional data into the c omputer system.
  • Issue refunds or c redits to c ustomers with manager ap pro val when ne c essary.
  • Bag, box, or wrap mer c handise; prepare pa c kages as ne c essary.
    • C orre c tly maintain all c ash levels at the registers, c ompute and re c ord totals of transa c tions.
  • Responsible for appearan c e of the showroom, the physi c al integrity and pride of the showroom. Maintain store environment in c luding doors, floors, windows, c eilings, restrooms, and workstations. C lean and dust pro du c t s, displays, and fa c e of the pro du c t s.
  • Maintain sto c k levels on the sales floor and in the sto c kroom.
  • Assist with physi c al inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned by loc ation management.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum edu c ation required - High S c hool Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimal experien c e required - building material knowledge and sales experien c e a plus.
  • Spe c ial skills required - C ommitment to pro viding ex c ellent c ustomer servi c e, strong oral and written c ommuni c ation skills. Maintenan c e of pro fessional demeanor. Must be detail-oriented and highly observant. Must be able to multi-task. Must possess good mathemati c skills. Able to use a c al c ulator and c omputers.
  • Knowledge of building materials, appli c ations, related equipment, and/or c onstru c tion industry.
  • Good interpersonal and c ustomer relations skills, vendor knowledge, ability to re ad , write, and perform basi c mathemati c al c al c ulations, and ex c ellent oral and written c ommuni c ation skills.
  • Ability to re ad and understand blueprints.
  • Should be familiar with c omputer, printer, telephone, c opy ma c hine, fax ma c hine, engineer's s c ale/ruler, me c hani c al tools, inventory, and inventory c ontrol.
  • Must be able to drive and walk throughout yar d s, plants, and offi c es, c omputer literate with Mi c rosoft Offi c e pro du c t s and Trend system.
  • Ability to work Saturday and evening s c hedules as required .
  • Physi c al demands in c lude standing regularly, walk , use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, c arry, or rea c h. O c c asionally required to sit; c limb or balan c e or stoop; kneel, c rou c h, or c rawl. Regularly lifting up to 25 lbs., frequently lifting up to 50 lbs., and o c c asionally lifting up to 100 lbs.
