Summary

Provide inter-facility ALS and BLS transport services for local and regional facilities to include long-distance transfers, patient assessment and care, and emergency medical services to surrounding counties as well as mutual aid assistance while achieving high levels of clinical excellence and customer satisfaction. Provider specific duties will vary based on assigned station location, as well as level of certification.


Qualifications

  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License, Paramedic Certification, Emergency Vehicle Operations Training (EVOC), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALs), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLs), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 100, 200 and 700 also preferred
  • Ability to hear, read, write, communicate, and interpret instructions
  • Demonstrate competency in handling emergencies using basic life support equipment
  • Use good judgement and remain calm in high-stress situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization
  • Carry and balance a minimum of 125 pounds
  • Bend, stoop, crawl, and walk on uneven surfaces
  • Function in varied environmental conditions (light/dark work areas, extreme heat/cold, etc.)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Protect the rights of patients to include access to care, patient dignity, confidentiality, and constant treatment.
  • Operate ambulances and other company equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance, demonstrating courteous and ethical behavior and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Inspect duty ambulance and equipment for proper operation utilizing the Daily Truck Check Sheet/App at the beginning of each shift and maintain an adequate stock of supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of duty ambulance throughout each shift to include disinfecting the interior of the ambulance and detailing the exterior of the ambulance.
  • Per posted chore lists, maintain cleanliness of the quarters, clean all living areas on the grounds, sanitize and clean bathrooms, remove trash, and other duties as assigned.
  • Depending on certification level, provide basic and/or advanced life support treatment, emergency medical treatment, and stretcher transportation services, while not exceeding level of skill, training, and certification.
  • Demonstrate full compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations and laws pertaining to protocols, standards of care, motor vehicle operations, patient rights, and Delta Response Team rules, policies, directives, and instructions.
  • Observe patients, reassess patients during transports, and record conditions and treatments rendered.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
  • Utilize ESO and/or ImageTrend Elite software to document necessary information in CHART format, and check messages every shift to determine if corrections or additional information needed.
  • Retrieve appropriate documentation (face sheet, Physician Certification Statement, etc.) from facility to accompany reports and accurately complete and submit paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Receive communication (call, text, etc.) from Dispatch, acknowledge the communication, read road maps and/or utilize GPS technology, identify most expeditious route to the scene, and observe traffic ordinances and regulations enroute to and from scenes.
  • In emergent situations, upon arrival at the scene, ensure vehicle is parked safely, perform a size up to determine scene safety, mechanism of injury or illness, determine total number of patients, and request additional help if necessary.
  • In the absence of public safety at the scene of an emergency, take safety precautions to protect the injured and those assisting in the care of patient(s).
  • As it relates, comply with county policies on handling crime scenes and prehospital death by notifying appropriate authorities and arrange for protection of property and evidence.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, family members, medical personnel, coworkers, and the general public, in verbal and written form.
  • Consistently maintain the ambulance in an efficient operating condition. After completion of all calls, restock and replace care supplies and linens, clean all equipment following appropriate decontamination and cleaning procedures, make careful examination of all equipment to ensure availability for the next call.
  • Promptly report damage, deficiencies, safety issues, or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment, and supplies, or any other matters relevant to safe, efficient, and proper operations.
  • Attend continuing education and refresher training programs as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with medical equipment.
  • Report to work properly rested and fit for duty.
