The Position: The role of the Director of Unaccompanied Children's Shelter focuses on the overall management of the programmatic, administrative, financial, and operational systems related to the provision of care and services; provision of regular and timely reports to ORR regarding operations, services, and finances; establishing a respective and supportive workplace environment; elevating any issues or concerns to ORR.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

The pay range we’re offering is $85,000 - $100,000 annually depending on experience.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid Administrator’s Certificate issued by CDSS
  • A Master of Social Work (MSW) or an equivalent degree in education, psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science degree, plus two years of employment as a social worker in an agency serving children, or in a residential congregate care program for children
  • 5 years experience in child welfare administration, child protective services
  • 2 years of experience in program management or as director of a licensed child care program. 
  • 2 years of experience post licensure required.  
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screening
  • Ability to commute to various sites on and off campus

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the Vice President of Residential to direct and evaluate the shelter and TFC program to ensure compliance with regulations, contract standards, accreditation standards, and McKinley’s policies.
  • Actively work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that clients are receiving adequate services.
  • Ensure policies are followed so that the safety of all children in placement is maintained.
  • Actively participate in the intake process, including reviewing intake packets and safety concerns.
  • Be available during evenings and weekends for emergencies.
  • Take an active role in the development of the managing expenditures.
  • Organize the work of the staff and delegate responsibilities as needed.
  • Assess operations and program, and make recommendations to the Vice President of Residential for continual improvement.
  • Participate with Human Resources in the recruitment, hiring, evaluating, and terminating staff. 
  • Develop a plan for the orientation, development, and training of staff to meet Title 22 standards.
  • Review complaints made by children or their authorized representative(s) and decide upon the action to be taken. 
  • Observe and interact with staff, children, and others to ensure quality of care for children and program services.
  • Work with the mental health team to ensure that children are receiving adequate Mental Health Services.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure that treatment planning demonstrates on-going progress in the safe release of UC.
  • Monitor and review all protocol and practices, including one-on-ones and hospitalizations.
  • Actively participate in the Program Quality Improvement (PQI) program.
  • All other related duties that may be necessary to manage and administer the shelter and TFC program.
