Director of Wellness Summary

Manages the personal care department with the goal of providing a safe, homelike environment where residents can achieve and maintain their fullest level of wellness and function. Utilizes sound management principles to maintain a motivated and stable personal care staff. Oversees resident health and wellness through regular resident monitoring and communication to the resident care team. Other relevant duties as may be required or assigned by management.

Routine Functions of the Director of Wellness

  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful, and supportive environment for all residents, co-workers, families, and facility guests. Assure that orientation and welcoming process occurs for all new residents and co-workers.
  • Manage the staff of the personal care department. Interview, hire, orient, coach, counsel, and evaluate staff. Support professional growth of co-workers.
  • Ensure adequate staffing based upon state regulations, annual budgets, and team targets.
  • Encourage teamwork, promote wellness philosophy, support open communication and collaborative problem solving among co-workers. Lead by example.
  • Work in partnership with the administrator, marketer, and wellness team to assess residents’ needs and to place them appropriately within the continuum of care.
    • Lead the wellness team in the continual review of residents, service planning based on that review, and changes in resident care levels.
    • Encourage residents’ and family’s participation in service planning to be sure that personal choice, independence and dignity is preserved. At minimum keep family informed of resident progress (respecting resident confidentiality)
    • Assure customer service plan is available to appropriate co-workers and that residents receive services specified in their plans.
  • Coordinate health services with residents, physicians, therapy departments, pharmacy and other referral agencies to assure optimal care. All communications meet state and federal guidelines for confidentiality and resident rights.
  • Collaborate with dining services to ensure a beneficial dining experience for each resident.
  • Collaborate with Activity Service Coordinator and therapy department to promote optimal resident mobility, cognition and satisfying social interactions.
  • Actively protect resident and co-worker safety by recognizing and reporting or taking immediate action to minimize risk of accident or injury.
    • Appropriately handle on-the-job injuries reported by employees.
    • Respond to resident emergencies and react appropriately.
    • Monitor general and medication incident reports and, when needed, implement action plans to decrease incident occurrence.
    • Assure completion of the OSHA Sharps Log and other safety related reports.
  • Assure that all infection control guidelines are met.
  • Train staff personally as well as through support of the PCA Training Coordinator to ensure initial and ongoing education of all personal care co-workers regarding residents’ health and wellness. Ensure attendance of all co-workers at mandatory sessions.
  • Observe for any signs of resident abuse or neglect. Take immediate action to prevent harm and report incidents according to company policy and state laws.
  • Promote departmental communication through regular staff meetings.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and order accordingly.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Administrator in their absence and take initiative to maintain the smooth operation of the facility, reporting to the VP of Operations.
  • Responsible for compliance with company policies and procedures, pharmacy policies and procedures, and state and federal agency rules and regulations.
  • Expand personal development in nursing (especially related to older adults), performance management, knowledge of regulations or regulatory issues, and communication skills.
  • Perform general nursing duties as necessary.

Requirements

Full time 8:30 am to 5 pm 80 hours per pay

  • Current RN license in the state where employed.
  • Minimum of one year experience in assisted living industry or health care.
  • Prior supervisory experience in the health care environment strongly preferred.
