Job Description:
3M is seeking a Manufacturing Technology Specialist for the Film Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations (FMSCO) division located in Maplewood, MN.
Job Summary:
The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Technology Specialist will lead and participate in teams delivering new product and process developments, providing manufacturing support, and implementing technology advancements having significant business impact across the division. The primary focus of these efforts will be in the core FMSCO manufacturing platforms of polyester (PET), multilayer (MOF) and extrusion coated (ExCo) films.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
* Lead and participate in teams delivering technology advancements (NTI), commercialization (NPI), and/or process & product understanding (PPU) related to FMSCO film manufacturing platforms
* Provide technical support for film manufacturing operations and processes
* Develop and coordinate experimental runs in lab, pilot plant, and manufacturing facilities
* Identify and implement process and product innovations using both internal and external technologies
* Work closely with clients and cross-functional teams (including lab, pilot plant, and factory personnel) to deliver results
* Travel to manufacturing locations, when needed, to provide experiment coverage, consultation, knowledge transfer, troubleshooting, or training
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering field from an accredited university
* Minimum of five (5) years of combined experience in one or more of the following areas: Process development, product development, manufacturing engineering, process engineering, product engineering, EHS, and/or Quality
Preferred Qualifications:
* Six or more (6+) years of experience in a process development, engineering or manufacturing environment
* Experience with extrusion and/or oriented film processes
* Experience with technology transfer, process scale-up and/or new product commercialization
* Ability to work with team members and stakeholders from multiple functions, divisions, and geographic locations
* Strong leadership, project management, communication, and influencing skills to proactively guide projects toward robust, cost effective solutions
* Demonstrated analytical and statistical analysis skills and capabilities
* Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes
* Responds to new information and inputs with a sense of urgency
Location: Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include 10% - 25% travel
