Protein Research is a growing and successful contract manufacturing company for the nutritional industry nationwide. We work exclusively with our clients to research, develop and create powder drinks, pre-mix, dietary capsules, sachets and more.

THE ROLE: You will be an integral part of our R&D Applications team in creating or following flavor formulations and using scientific and sensory skills to test and prepare flavor samples while providing performance feedback and following good laboratory practices.

DUTIES:

  • Follow flavor formulations and to compound flavors with speed and accuracy
  • Ensure that all product formulations, processes, and specifications meet defined standards.
  • Taste flavors and ingredients; assist in applying flavors to food products
  • Utilize sensory and tasting skills to describe the profile of the flavor or ingredient.
  • Participate in the evaluation of raw materials, new technology or processes, and flavors in food products and provide timely flavor performance feedback
  • Assist in sample preparation
  • Maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment and lab equipment in accordance with EH&S guidelines and good laboratory practices.
  • Maintain all required formula records and brief documentation in company database software
  • Maintain organized and updated stock of raw materials and collection of flavors
  • Work with other departments to ensure smooth processing of sample preparation.
  • Demonstrate scientific curiosity & employ efficient time management techniques
  • Development with all information on any new materials that need to be added to the formula and set up in DBA.
  • Assists with Finished Product Specifications sheets for each new product and then passes on to Quality department to finalize.
  • Reviews stability after test results are received on finished products and works along with Product Development to prolong shelf life if needed.
  • Follows GLP and uses the designated lab book for continuous recording of every type of test or data in regards to raw materials and/or finished products.
  • Updates documents consistently such as: the priority excel sheet on the share drive, tracking all raw materials from R&D Applications department ensuring that they follow the New Raw Material Qualification process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Food Science or related field
  • Must be able to taste and smell chemicals, flavors and food products
  • 2-4 years in food industry with flavoring and formulations experience
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time in a laboratory setting and lift 50lbs.
  • Strong math and measuring skills
  • Ability to blend dry mixes, organize laboratory and record data
  • Problem solving skills (using scientific method)
  • Experience with laboratory environment, equipment and safety procedures
  • Ability to develop clear, concise, and timely oral and written reports
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflows
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis of data, laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting, and laboratory analysis)
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Proficient on Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and MRP Software, preferably DBA Manufacturing
  • Ability to work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
