Under general direction, the Information Systems Specialist supports system infrastructure of enterprise applications for Whistlestop Transportation services. This role has responsibility for maintaining transportation IT systems to ensure effective implementation of established contract programs that improve access to transportation for special needs communities. The Specialist will also provide trouble shooting and general IT support for users including assistance with equipment malfunctions, software problems, etc. Additional areas of responsibility include: data collection, reporting & analysis, as well as sourcing for a variety of equipment and software needs

Essential Functions: 

General Technology

  • Create new users, modify user profiles & permissions.
  • Provide trouble shooting and general support for IT issues including work stations, servers, networking equipment, as well as needs which require advanced solutions using support vendor, Alternative Technology.

  • Serve as liaison with outside vendors; arrange for technical support and user training as necessary and appropriate.

  • Coordinate, review and participate with technical and professional staff in data collection and analyses to achieve operation effectiveness.

  • Support systems by troubleshooting issues and exceptions to improve accuracy (such as for monthly billing)

  • Initiate and support internal software program upgrades.

  • Plan and implement technology solutions to enhance operational costs and effectiveness.

  • Research new equipment and technology for existing and emerging needs.

Transportation Technology

  • Maintain and monitor transportation IT infrastructure to maintain efficient operations and anticipate issues. This may include a variety of equipment and resource needs including servers, networking gear, software, mapping and mentor support, etc.

  • Provide sourcing for a variety of equipment and software needs including different GPS units, cellular phones, cellular phone boosters, etc.

  • In conjunction with management team, research, plan and/or implement technology solutions to enhance transportation’s operational and cost effectiveness.

  • In conjunction with Marin Transit’s IT consultants and management, provide oversight of Transportation COLO.

  • Provide Call center telephonic systems oversight, support & troubleshooting.

  • Collaborate with Marin Transit and related vendors regarding usage/repair of Mobile Data Terminals (MDT’s) and tablets as they apply to the transportation industry.

  • Prepare internal monthly, quarterly and annual reports, primarily on vital transportation activities including, but not limited to, cancellation/no-show reports, on-time performance reports, verification of times and reconciliation of manifests.

  • Works with management team, researching technology upgrades and improvements.

  •  Attend applicable technology conferences, seminars and meetings necessary to keep Whistlestop Transportation Services current with the applications and technological improvements.

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree in a business related field preferred.

  • Knowledge of industry specific software programs is desired.

  • High level of experience with MS Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, and Outlook, as well as database experience.

  • Strong analytic skills and the ability to convert data into useful information for decision making and reporting purposes.

  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot and follow through on solutions.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Well organized and able to handle multiple deadlines.

  • Able to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.

  • Able to apply good judgment in a fast-paced and quickly-changing environment, managing multiple tasks and coordinating with various individuals while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
