The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for two part-time positions with a duration of approximately one year. Position #1: Community Builder for the City of Norton and Town of Dungannon. Position #2: Community Builder for the Towns of Haysi and St. Paul These positions will work alongside residents and local officials in two Southwest Virginia communities to advance economic strategies that build upon the region's outdoor recreation, cultural assets, and unique opportunities in technology and health. As part of a regional network of local leaders, these positions will take part in physical improvement and business development strategies including Opportunity SWVA's Rally entrepreneurial communities program, the Friends of Southwest Virginia's Appalachian Spring initiative, and specific local projects funded in part by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and the Appalachian Regional Commission. The primary shift will be daytime, with some evening and weekend work. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work well with a diverse group of constituents; and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment. A valid driver's license is required, along with a willingness to travel periodically within Southwest Virginia.
