FORKLIFT MECHANIC
Summary: The ability to work with either diesel, propane and electric forklifts and perform routine maintenance and repairs on forklifts and engines. Mechanics must be able to utilize diagnostic tools in order to identify underlying problems and knowledge of the many parts of a forklift is essential to perform the work safely; this includes their electrical systems, brakes, hydraulics, cooling systems and engines.
The forklift mechanic must be able to use jacks, usually of the hydraulic nature, to heavy forklifts from the ground to get closer looks for inspection. Some travel may be required as part of the job. Forklift mechanics generally drive to the location in need of service. Work may occasionally take place outside, even in inclement weather and close attention to detail is also important in this position to avoid accidents of any kind.
Forklift Mechanic tasks:
- Maintain and repair heavy equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical machinery and systems.
- Maintain shop supplies, shop and tools.
- Read, understand and apply information from technical manuals, prints and schematics.
