ABOUT FRIENDLY HOUSE CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS: Friendly House proudly welcomes a diverse group of families thanks to our sliding scale pricing and full scholarships for eligible families. Our Preschool is one of our oldest programs at Friendly House, dating back to the 1940s, and is deeply rooted in and respected by the community. For decades, we have provided a half-day, educational preschool experience for a diverse group of children, ages 3–5. For the 2017–18 school year, we are pleased to announce the opening of our full-day, year-round Preschool program to support working families. Our philosophy is based on the belief that children need an individualized early childhood education program to grow socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. We have a strong inclusion policy and support children with a variety of learning needs. Our After School program has partnered with Chapman Elementary School since 1982 to provide high-quality, engaging, and supportive out-of-school programming, now serving up to 150 students. We provide structured homework time and activity choices with a carefully planned curriculum; activity choices may include cooking, messy art, leaf gathering and rubbings, or a game of floor hockey in our full-sized gym. Our After School staff are trained in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), providing students with a supportive, safe, and thoughtful environment in which to learn and play. Summer Day Camp serves school-age children from throughout Portland all day during the summer months with weekly themes, field trips, and swimming lessons. Updated July 2017
