JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing skilled or technical duties involving repair, maintenance, construction, alteration, inspection, and preventative service to assure continuous operation of all assigned building and mechanical facilities.

Job Requirements

Able to Read work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials to determine types and amounts of materials required to cover work pieces. Fit, install, and secure material on frames, using hand tools, power tools, glue, cement, or staples. Make, restore, or create custom upholstered furniture, using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods. Carry out the functions associated with furniture modification, maintenance, with the help of padding, fabric or leather cover

Physical Strength

Able to lift, handle, and move fairly heavy tools and material. The team member is occasionally required to sit. The team member must frequently lift and/or move 100 pounds or more (with or without assistance or extra equipment). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must wear safety glasses or side shields on regular glasses. Normal range of vision including clarity at 20 inches or less.

Experience

Must have at least 2 years of recent experience.

Valid Driver's License

* Study work orders to determine the amount and type of materials required to cover work pieces

* Follow sketches, patterns or blueprints to indicate cutting lines on fabrics using chalks, pencils or paint

* Measure and cut materials using manual or automated cutting instruments

* Confer with customers prior to upholstery to determine their color, style, and fabric preferences

* Remove anchoring tacks and strip upholstered furniture down to its wooden frame

* Examine furniture frames, springs, and webbings to identify defects

* Apply their knowledge of upholstery to build or repair upholstered furniture using a variety of hand or power tools

* Ensure projects are completed and delivered before set deadline

* Cover wooden frame with soft materials such as cotton, felt pad, fiber or foam to improve texture and appearance

* Work with tools and materials such as glue, staples, saw, cement, tacks and nail guns

* Secure work pieces and materials onto production equipment

* Conduct routine maintenance of work tools and upholstery machine

* Finish upholstered furniture by attaching ornament trims, buttons, buckles, and grommets

* Operate sewing machine to sew upholstery and join various sections of covering fabric

* Replace defective or worn upholstery spring, webbing or wooden frame.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

* Two to four years experience in one or more of the following: repair of refrigeration, plumbing, boilers, emergency generators, electrical and gas kitchen equipment

* Literate and fluent in English

* Ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business

PHYSICAL, MENTAL and ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

* Visual and auditory field must include immediate environment.

* Physical mobility to move about property quickly.

* Ability to frequently lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 90 pounds

* Ability to climb ladders or crawl through tight spaces in high or low areas while carrying approximately 30 pounds of tools or equipment.

* Agility skills to include occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and turning.

* Dexterity skills to include constant reaching, handling, working with fingers, and hand coordination.

* Ability to tolerate tight spaces in high or low areas

* Ability to tolerate dust, chemicals or fumes

* Potential exposure to hazardous conditions

* Must be able to work in a "smoke-filled" environment and tolerate loud noises and bright lights.

* Must be capable of working indoors or outdoors during all seasons, including unusually hot, cold, smoky, and/or dimly lit areas.
