Overview:  Perform short order cook duties.  Set up, stock work and clean cook station.  Responsible for the daily operations of the hotline and general kitchen cleaning duties.  Work as a member of a team to provide exemplary customer service.  Communicate professionally and respectfully. Maintain an organized, sanitary and safe workspace. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Cooking Duties:
    1. Set up station according to restaurant guidelines.
    2. Prepare, cook and plate all food items cooked to order in a timely and sanitary manner.
    3. Use portion control and specific presentation as set by the restaurant.
    4. Ensure all food and cookware is stocked for the incoming shift.
  2. Safety & Sanitation:
    1. Clean and maintain workstations in accordance with all safety and sanitation guidelines.
    2. Observe all food and physical safety requirements established by the organization.
  3. General Duties:
    1. Perform additional duties as requested by the Sous Chef or Kitchen Supervisor.
    2. Communicate effectively with team members and report any concerns to the Kitchen Supervisor

Qualifications:

  1. Good communication skills (Spanish and English a plus).
  2. Prep or line cook experience.
  3. Excellent attendance and punctuality is required with schedule flexibility determined by business needs.
  4. Trained in the use of knives and cutting boards; thermometers and temperatures.
  5. Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.
  6. Must be able speak, read and understand basic cooking directions.
  7. Must be able to hear with 100% accuracy.

Skills/Aptitudes:

  1. Able to work in a high-energy and demanding environment.
  2. Works well under pressure.
  3. Able to identify and properly address problems with equipment and work environment.
  4. Able to take direction.
  5. Able to learn and follow work guidelines based on Health Department, OSHA and ADA regulations.
  6. Ability to learn the proper use and safety requirements of all kitchen equipment.
  7. Must obtain Food Handler's permit from Marin County.
  8. Must be able to maintain a high level of sanitation/cleanliness in all areas.
