Wheeler Mission Ministries helps the homeless in Indiana. Wheeler is a non-denominational, Christian, social services organization, which provides critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy of central Indiana without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, creed, national origin, or religion. Wheeler is not a church, but does cooperate with many different churches that are concerned about poverty and homelessness in the inner city. Job Description:

The Food Service Assistant will join Wheeler's food service team in a fast environment, preparing meals for 100 - 350 men, women, and children daily. This person must be able to adapt to changed determined by food availability and the number of guests to be served. They must be excited about serving in a Christian environment that provides meals, shelter, and recovery programs to homeless and addicted individuals in the Indianapolis community.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with the food service team to prepare a variety of meals for guests or residents staying in Wheeler's facilities.
  • Practice safe, clean, and professional procedures to maintain a safe kitchen environment.Stock shelves and help with inventory assessments.
  • Perform daily cleaning, sanitizing, and equipment upkeep tasks.
  • Assist other food service staff with various tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Individual must be strong in their faith and be able to be a witness to the men and/or women who assist them from the Recovery Programs of Wheeler Mission Ministries.
  • This person must be organized and able to direct volunteers who may be helping in the kitchen.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Serv Safe Certification preferred but not required upon hiring.
  • Basic email and or computer skills preferred.
