Job Overview:

The Employee Relations Investigator independently investigates employee-initiated claims in partnership with Legal, Associate Relations and Human Resource Business Partners in accordance with company policies, practices and applicable laws.

Typical investigations include partnering with multiple stakeholders, identifying and interviewing witnesses, and making decisions or recommendations regarding appropriate actions based on a thorough evaluation of the evidence gathered. The Employee Relations Investigator provides quality customer service by resolving inquiries, questions and cases in a consistent, accurate and timely manner.

Additionally, these positions will be cross trained in other functions of Employee Relations including but not limited to ER Advisors, Performance Support Advisors and ADLM. As the ER Department’s work ebbs and flows these positions may flex between the Investigator role and other ER roles.

Perform other duties as assigned. This position can be located in Cincinnati, OH.

Essential Functions:

• Conduct enterprise-wide investigations and achieve resolution on all employee-initiated claims, including but not limited to Solutions InSTORE claims, TUWYT and letters to the CEO/Board of Directors. Partner with the Centers of Expertise and Law Department as appropriate.
• Manage individual investigations including but not limited to interviewing employees, managers and witnesses and ensuring claim resolution consistent with Company policy and process.
• Handle inbound calls, emails and portal inquiries to identify needs and provide advice, coaching and decision-making on all assigned cases.
• Research confidential company records, online knowledge articles and be fully knowledgeable of all company policies and procedures and their application. Strive for continuous learning, remaining up-to-date on legal guidelines and internal policies in order to provide accurate guidance in response to inquiries.
• Investigate all cases to resolution with partnership from Legal, Human Resources, Asset Protection and Associate Relations to ensure consistent interpretation of policy.
• Communicate with and influence business leaders & supervisors regarding:
• Enforcement and consistent application of company policies & procedures
o Navigation of challenging situations through effective conflict resolution techniques
o Collaborate with multiple stakeholders with differing points of view while maintaining confidentiality of complex and highly sensitive subject matter.
• Assess and mitigate risk associated with disciplinary actions and make partners as appropriate.
• Act independently to influence outcomes by providing sound, consistent advice to all levels of the organization.
• Make recommendations for policy changes or enhancements based on experience with prior situations; identify unproductive internal processes and recommend improvements.
• Train in other areas of Employee Relations and be able to move from one role to the other when needed.
• Regular, dependable attendance & punctuality.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least 5 years of HR experience preferred, involving investigating, researching and resolving manager and associate issues
• Demonstrated experience in handling high volume, fast paced work
• Proven track record of solid collaboration working with various work groups
• Experience working strongly with a team of fast paced professionals with a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality
• Prior experience in conflict management strongly preferred

Communication Skills:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to organize and present information in a clear and concise way.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Ability to build rapport and communicate challenging information effectively.

Mathematical Skills:

• Must have above average mathematical skills, including the ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Reasoning Ability:

• Must be able to work independently and solve routine issues with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to learn new and changing technology systems and work processes, and use them consistently
• Solid judgment in handling non-routine situations is required.
• Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills required.

Physical Demands:

• This position involves extended periods of sitting and the extensive use of computer and the office equipment.
• May involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Involves close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Other Skills:

• Self-directed in work and approach with a high level of personal confidence and authority.
• Very strong project and process management skills.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and details at once.
• Adept at interviewing employees, witnesses and supervisors to gather relevant case information, preparing detailed documentation and maintaining files in preparation for potential future claims.
• Ability to maintain highly confidential information.
• Working knowledge of HR systems and programs including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.

Work Hours:

• Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and store/company needs.
