The certified coding specialist, with supervision, and in conjunction with leadership, reviews provider documentation to maintain adherence to the documentation guidelines set forth by CMS as well as accurate assignment of ICD-10 CM diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes. Further responsibilities include querying physician and non-physician providers in coding prior to claim submission, and denial management. Responsible for proactively educating providers in regard to ICD-10 CM and CPT-4 Official Conventions and Coding Guidelines, and providing guidance when errors occur. Responsible for the coordination and oversite of onsite insurance transactions to ensure that all requirements are met in order to maximize reimbursement. Work with management to continually review, revise and update coding procedures for the Vascular Surgeons by developing education for quality improvement. Collaborate with Management to effectively update ICD-10 and CPT codes to gain compliance and effectively increase providers ability to improve coding practices. Collaborate and communicate with Medicare Advantage and Compliance Department regarding all updates federal and state, communicate any audits done by payers to providers and provide support for the reconciliation.


Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or AHIMA Certified such as Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required. Candidates with experience may also be considered if certification is obtained within six months of employment.


High school diploma or equivalent required.


2 years experience in physician medical billing, reimbursement and coding (office visits, procedures and surgeries) is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.


Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 CM, and HCPCS coding manuals, as well as Federal and State government and managed care billing guidelines. Knowledge of practice management systems.


Good organization skills; pays close attention to detail; ability to coordinate multiple projects; excellent communication skills. This is a highly responsible position that requires both quantitative and interpersonal skills.
