Phlebotomist - Laboratory

Job Summary
The phlebotomist is responsible to perform specimen collection, accession receiving, and to distribute specimens to designated departments. Extracts blood accurately in a timely manner and must know how to use the laboratory computer system.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Examines labels, determining what tubes must be collected and collecting the correct volume in the correct tubes for the tests ordered
  
  
• Maintains phlebotomy tray/working area in a neat and orderly manner
  
  
• Performs accession receipt of specimens and delivers specimens to the appropriate processing area
  
  
• Performs appropriate patient identification and accurately completes all clinical functions in accordance with established procedures

Education and Qualifications

• Current BLS CPR
  
  
• Minimum of 2 years experience preferred in drawing blood in a hospital environment
  
  
• Phlebotomy (venipuncture) license issued by California State Department of Health Services
  
  
• High school diploma
