About this job

Immediate need for an Automation Controls Engineer in Kansas City, MO. This is a direct placement position paying $70k-$85k plus benefits, paid holidays, profit sharing, etc!

The Automation Controls Engineer reports directly to the Production Manager and the Vice President of Operations. This position interfaces with other associates throughout the production area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with planning and designing of automation equipment.
  • Designs, writes, and troubleshoots PLC programs.
  • Designs and programs HMI (human-machine interface) screens.
  • Manages new automation projects from concept through implementation.
  • Designs and builds new automation for production.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements needed to make all automation cells run at the fastest possible cycle and make the best quality parts.
  • Assists in the training of production personnel.
  • Works with the Process Engineer/Tech and Supervisors on automation issues.
  • Creates ideas for improvements on existing automation.
  • Designs and builds end of arm tooling for pick and place robots.
  • Creates support documentation, user manuals, program and wiring diagrams.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to create robust automation processes
  • Ability to incorporate safety considerations into automation designs
  • High degree of skill in automation and proven record of success in the automation field.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and handle large and/or multiple projects.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A. or B.S. degree, or equivalent
  • 7 or more years of direct experience in injection molding and related operations or a combination of education or experience
  • Solid background in automation design
  • Experience in designing automation components and systems in design software (Solidworks/AutoCad).
  • Experience with injection molding is preferred.
  • Experience with robotics is preferred (e.g. six axis).
  • Experience with leading projects and working with budgets.
