We are currently seeking an Area Controller to support our communities in NY and CT. The Area Controller is responsible for the accounting, billing and financial operations for their portfolio of approximately 15 communities; ensuring adequate internal controls exist and accounting practices are in compliance with Sunrise policies; ensures communities are closed within the established month-end deadlines, financial reporting is properly stated for the period. Provides hands-on community support through:
  • Routine on-site community visits and accounting compliance audits
  • Participates in office staff hiring, onboarding and performance management
  • Supports the annual community operating budget preparation
  • Monitors performance to budget on a monthly basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures communities meet deadlines to close each accounting period, variances are researched and appropriate correcting entries are made before reports are final
  • Ensure community has adequate office staffing during critical monthly close period
  • Direct and support the accounting functions and closing processes for all communities within the portfolio
  • Review and approve communities P&L variance reports to ensure they are timely, accurate and contain relevant explanations that are appropriate for an external audience; Complete variance reports in the absence of the community ED
  • Analyze communities operating results and financial performance key indicators to identify trends; communicate findings to the area team
  • Coordinate ad hoc requests for information and ensure community reporting to capital partners is submitted to the CSO within established deadlines
  • Participate in area team monthly reviews of operating results lead by RDO
  • Monitors community key business controls monthly and ensures they are executed in accordance with Sunrise policy
  • Ensures communities are reconciling Kronos hours to PeopleSoft each pay period and resolving variances
  • Performs desk audits of key monthly deliverables to ensure completeness and accuracy; monitors the Monthly Key Controls Checklist submissions and takes correction action as necessary
  • Reviews and approves community balance sheet reconciliations as applicable each month in accordance with department policy
  • Assists in providing audit schedules; PBC’s and flux analysis as requested
  • Consistently meets business process deadlines
  • Direct oversight of the business office team members within our skilled communities, including hiring, firing and performance management. Community Controller reports directly to Area Controller with a dotted line to the ED
  • First level support to our Business Office Coordinator (BOC) positions in the areas of Billing, AP, Reporting, Payroll and GL.
  • Coordinates support in the HR area with regional & corporate resources; BOC’s have dotted line reporting to Area Controller
  • Knowledge and working understanding of the day to day field community operations
  • Ability to build and lead high performing teams
  • Follows up on customer problems and resolves issues in an appropriate and timely manner; customers include residents, vendors, regional team members and CSO personnel
  • Proactively confronts and manages difficult issues; ability to partner with RDO and community ED to implement process improvements and resolve conflicts
  • Proactively escalates issues to the appropriate levels within the organization
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business field preferred
  • Five (5) years management/operational leadership experience (or related experience with Sunrise); healthcare industry preferred
  • Competent in organizational, time management skills
  • Supervisory and management experience including hiring staff, coaching, performance management, discipline and counseling.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Business analytical skills with the ability to link information to action and results.
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and the ability to facilitate small group presentations
  • Competent in organizational, time management skills
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstration of proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) and Sunrise applications with the ability to learn new applications
  • Ability to travel in geographic area
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and flexible hours, available for our customers at peak service delivery days and times
