About this job

Mathematica Policy Research, a nationally recognized social policy research company, is conducting a study on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education to examine the impact of individualized feedback and coaching to support new teachers.  Selected first-year or novice teachers will be assigned a coach who reviews video recordings of their classroom and provides actionable steps that teachers can take to improve their instruction.

The research team will also review beginning of the year and end of the year video observations to study changes in teaching practices and its relationship to   student achievement. In 2017-18, the study will recruit 200 novice or first-year teachers from about six districts in the US.  These teachers will be randomly assigned to receive either the video feedback intervention or the usual professional development provided by the district.

On behalf of Mathematica Policy Research, Headway Workforce Solutions is seeking part time school based data collectors to work on this U.S. Department of Education sponsored study called Teacher Prep.

Part-Time Data Collectors will work as employees of Headway Workforce Solutions on behalf of Mathematica Policy Research.

As a Part-Time Data Collector, you should live within a 30-mile radius of Jacksonville FL and the Duval County Public School District.  Training and project work will begin in late July and continue through the 2018 school year and again in the 2018-2019 school year.

We offer to you:

  • Work of up to 30 hours per week.  Please note there may be some downtime during the project data collection period.
  • Pay rate dependent on experience and location
  • Mileage reimbursement
  • Paid online and in-person training

For this study, Part-Time Data Collectors will…

  • Gather student lists and parent permission forms for students before video recording classrooms
  • Conduct video recordings in classrooms (to include set up, video recording and take down of equipment – equipment consists of a camera kit with bag, two iPads, two iPods, chargers and a small portable tripod )
  • Attend training in your area to learn to use the equipment
  • Attend a teacher orientation / training to take attendance and proctor teacher tests such as Praxis
  • Assist with teacher survey follow-up if needed

Requirements:

  • Experience working in a school setting and ability to interact with school administration staff
  • Proficient and comfortable with technology, especially with a tablet computer
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
  • Must undergo background check and Department of Education clearance
  • Must be willing to undergo background check by school district if required

Ideal Candidates will:

  • Have video recording experience
  • Have school data collection experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
  • Have a fully flexible and available schedule to work when the project needs dictate.
