The next Perioperative 101 Residency Program is scheduled to start May 22, 2107 and we are currently accepting applications for RNs with clinical experience and new graduates with a strong interest in surgery.
 
St. Vincent’s Perioperative 101 Residency program has been thoughtfully created to support your career growth and advancement.  The operating room is one of the most unique areas in nursing.  It requires specialized skills and an entirely different knowledge base. This 6-month program is designed to introduce, prepare and train registered nurses on how to successfully become a circulator in the operating room.

Job Summary:
The surgical RN manages patient care from the pre-operative area though the surgical procedure until the patient arrives safely in the post anesthesia unit.   
 
Responsibilities:
  • Prepares operating room and surgical instruments and equipment for use.
  • Assists with induction of anesthesia.
  • Tends to the needs of the surgeon, the surgical technician and the sterile field.
  • Responsible for monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition as well as managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
 
Qualifications
Licenses/Certifications/Registration:
  • Minimum Qualification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within thirty days of hire date to position.
  • Minimum Qualification: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Indiana obtained upon hire date to position.
  • Preferred Qualification: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
 
Education:
  • Minimum Qualification:  Associate's Degree in Nursing obtained by date of hire.  Must acquire BSN within three years of hire.
  • Preferred Qualification:  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Preferred Qualification:  Graduated from a nursing program accredited through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Work Experience:
Preferred Qualification:  Two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse (RN).
