About this job

The Server is a member of the Food and Beverage team that assists in ensuring that The Langham Hotel Boston guest service and food and beverage standards are met.  Hospitable, welcoming and friendly guest service, are essential requirements of the position.

Responsibilities:

·          Greet guest and take beverage/food orders

·         Set-up lounge/restaurant for evening cocktail service and dinner service including placing menus and standard items on each table.

·         Serve beverages/food per established standard procedures

·         Up sell additional items to all guests

·         Follow control procedures; portion control

·         Respond to guest’s requests; report complaints to manager

·          Provide maximum levels of guest service while maintaining Langham Hotel standards

·         Report duty as scheduled by manager according to operating hours with flexibility

·         Be actively part of assigned cross training throughout the department

·          Assist bartender/busser/barback as needed

·         Maintain cleanliness of work area

·         Complete assigned side work

·         Additional duties not mentioned above may also be requested by a supervisor

Requirements: 

·         Must have knowledge of wine/spirits/food

·         Must become TIPS certified if not already

·         Use oral communication to perform job; speaking with guests

·         Stand; reach; grasp; lift/carry up to 30 pounds; walk; kneel; squat/bend; push/pull

·         Make minor decisions requiring limited judgment, i.e. task sequencing

·         Make general decisions in the absence of specific directions, i.e. not to serve intoxicated guests, prioritizing workload

·         Must have related previous experience in similar environment

·         React well and remain in control when working with high volume under pressure

·         Attend monthly department meeting and provided trainings

·         Demonstrate team playing skills at all times

·         Have positive attitude and set example among colleagues

·         Be able to adapt to hotel’s grooming standards and dress code
