Position Purpose

The Corn Oil Food Safety and Quality Specialist I position is responsible for providing specialized knowledge of specific segments of our food safety and quality systems and/or plant processes. Examples of specialization include: food safety and quality auditing, instrumentation, specific product line knowledge, computers systems, data management, management and/or oversight of suppliers or external manufacturing facilities and other needed focus areas. This position may be directly tied to production area(s) providing support for specialized testing, input to process management, plant trials, pest control and/or sanitation. The process support includes broad encompassing areas such as: design of experiments, evaluation of new equipment, coordination of projects, training of operations as well as auditing of process performance and systems, food safety risk assessment, calibration and/or development of new instrumentation or computer systems. This position may be involved in preparation and participation in customer audits. On an enterprise level, this position works with their counterparts at other locations to share local practices and identify and implement best practices at their locations. These positions also act as enterprise resource helping with startups, problem resolution at locations and terminals, and in some cases providing technical advice to our operations overseas. Food Safety and Quality Professional (Specialist I) may supervise one or more interns, lab technicians, chemist I or Product Line Support Chemist (PLSC) (chemist II).

Principal Accountabilities

25% In-depth management of specific segments of quality management systems (i.e. food safety, instrumentation, computers, specific product lines or other quality systems, etc.), providing support for operations or other functional areas where needed.

50% Process monitoring, system improvement support, specialized testing, training, plant trials, auditing of systems and performance.

15% Customer, supplier and co-manufacturer interaction, presentations, response to audits and issues, enterprise and local execution of best practice initiatives.

10% Miscellaneous job related duties i.e. supervision of interns, chemists or PLSC's, recruiting, operations, or supervisory support.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in a science field.

* Minimum 3 years of Food Safety and Quality experience.

* Demonstrated technical and leadership skills.

* Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment.

* Ability to manage multiple priorities.

* Strong attention to detail.

* Microsoft Office Suite experience.

* Ability to work independently

* Ability to work in a team environment.

* Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

* Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbal and written while working with diverse groups at all levels within the organization.

* Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of food safety, safety, quality, productivity, cost and employee relations.

* Able to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

* Project management skills.

* Food Safety experience (PRP's, SEM, HACCP, corporate and regulatory requirements, etc).

* Self-motivated.

* Flexible, able to work nights and weekends when necessary.

* Corn Oil and Feed FSQR knowledge.
