Job Summary/Essential Duties:

* Has the authority to interview, hire, orient, terminate, promote, train and conduct performance evaluations.

* Assigns day-to-day work activities; directs the functional and technical job performance of team members.

* Allocates and directs staffing needs to meet patient, unit/department and organizational needs and collaborates with others to ensure overall staffing needs are met.

* Manages performance including: setting goals, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance progress, providing feedback, recognizing performance, developing skills and addressing performance issues related to work and our Commitments using corrective action.

* Supports and helps develop action plans associated with patient perception and patient experience. Completes patient rounding by incorporating patient perception survey questions. Tracks responses to report to Operations Director/Manager.

* Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in unit meetings in service programs, continuing education programs, and fulfills yearly requirements as stated by policy. Assists in the orientation of new staff and participates in achieving organizational goals. Supports Shared Governance (Unit Based Councils).

* Plans individualized age appropriate patient care through a interdisciplinary team approach and through interdisciplinary patient care conference, ongoing patient assessments, re-evaluation of patient problems or needs. Utilizes professional skills and judgment in prescribing, delegating and coordinating the plan of care; includes appropriate resources to manage patient care. Administers medications and treatments according to nursing policy. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and initiates and provides for age appropriate education.

* Collaborates with Operations Director to complete employee rounding and support employee engagement action plans and activities.

* Address patient and family concerns in a compassionate, problem solving manner to support patient engagement

* Must have ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

* Demonstrates effective management of rapidly changing situations and demonstrates the ability to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations. Assesses patient status with patient/family input and identifies age-appropriate patient care needs/problems that includes bio-physical, psycho-social, spiritual, environment, self-care, and educational needs and will serve to focus the provision of nursing care at admission, transfer, and discharge.

* Provides the following nursing services: a. Independent; b. Inter-dependent; c. Delegated

Hours: 6a-6p / every other weekend and every other holiday / 8 hour shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Preferred:

Previous experience in nursing, leadership and/or mental health care preferred

Education/Licensure:

Nursing degree from an NLN approved school of nursing required. Bachelor in Nursing degree, currently enrolled in a BSN program or willingness/interest in pursuing BSN preferred. Must have a current Registered Nurse License in

Nebraska or Iowa. Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in the state of your residence.

Crisis Prevention Intervention CPI required within 6 months of hire

BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say "Professional Level-with AED", and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Job requires continuous use of reading skills and verbal/written communication skills. Incumbents must possess strong knowledge of acute behavioral care, strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, ability to delegate and role-model appropriate conflict resolution as well as time and stress management techniques, must demonstrate personal traits of a high level of motivation; team orientation, professionalism, trust, self-awareness and possess knowledge of how to communicate and work with people from a variety of age-groups, varying clinical skill levels, social strata and ethnic backgrounds and place a high value of treating others with dignity and respect
