Responsibilities: The Eau Claire Orthopedic Center is a sub-specialized, dynamic, and expanding practice with over twenty-seven providers in total, including nine Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in collaboration and/or under the supervision and direction of the physician to provide care that is timely, effective, efficient, safe, equitable and patient centered. Treats patients in the hospital and clinic setting. Performs in the role of surgical first assistant in the OR. Works in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to provide comprehensive assessment; orders and interprets diagnostic tests; prescribes pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments and therapies; promotes wellness and prevention; performs teaching and counseling for patients and families; assesses patient needs; develops treatment plans, implements and evaluates results; communicates with the healthcare team, patients, families, (employers, insurers, agencies, etc. as appropriate) to coordinate a patient centered plan of care. Applies principles of continuous improvement to all aspects of the job performance.

Qualifications: For Nurse Practitioner: Current prescriptive authority in the state of Wisconsin (APNP certification). Prefer experience treating orthopedic conditions and/or surgical first assisting experience. Allied Health Privileges within 3 months of hire.

For Physician Assistant: Eligible for Allied Health Privileges at our organization. Prescriptive Authority in the State of Wisconsin (WI Board of Medical Examiners and DEA).

Additional Qualifications: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English both written and verbal. Additional languages preferred. Basic computer knowledge. Specialty (or sub-specialty) physical examination, diagnosis and treatment skills for Orthopedics patients preferred. Ability to work well with diverse professionals as part of an integrated health care team, perform the range of duties in a variety of work settings, and perform well in stressful situations. Ability and willingness to learn new skills and methods. Proven dependability. Basic improvement concepts and techniques. Flexibility to meet department needs.

License or Certification: For Nurse Practitioner: Active Wisconsin RN license and Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) authority or eligibility to practice professional nursing in the state of Wisconsin. National Certification (e.g. ANCC or AANP). Current BLS Certification.

For Physician Assistant: Current Wisconsin Physician Assistant license. Current Certification: National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant. Current BLS Certification

Schedule Details: Position includes clinic, OR, hospital rounding, and on call responsibilities. Clinic and OR hours may vary between 7:00am-5:00pm. Call is evenly distributed on a yearly basis. NP/PA's do not take primary call on night and weekends, but are expected to be available. Travel to an outreach clinic may be expected.

Weekend Schedule: Call approximately is 1 in 9, and does include nights and weekends. These are evenly distributed throughout the year. The call schedule is generally set one year out
