JOB TITLE: Ultrasound C/V Tech II

PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION:

Technologist operates and maintains specialized ultrasound equipment for use in performing ultrasound procedures that required independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Consistently utilizing a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria) appropriate for pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients served in the assigned service area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Performs echocardiography/vascular exams related to diagnostic procedures. (F)

Exerts independent judgment and is responsible for the echocardiography/vascular quality in the performance of these exams. (F)

Consistently utilizing a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria) appropriate for pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients served in the assigned service area. (C)

Communicates effectively with physicians, patients, families, nursing staff and other Health System personnel. (C)

Demonstrates self-development by keeping abreast of current echo/vascular trends. (F)

Maintains responsibility for echo/vascular equipment, supplies and records. (F)

Participates in on-call duties as assigned. (F)

Maintains responsibility for the mobile vehicles by adhering to Health System and departmental policies and logs. Maintains vehicles in a clean and clutter - free environment. (F)

Must maintain a valid drivers license, and travel in less than desirable weather and road conditions to rural hospital accounts. Loads and unloads equipment, prepares the equipment for the exams, and completes all necessary paperwork for the billing process. (F)

Must complete all Netlearning and job based competencies by Sept. 30 each year.

30 CMEs per 3 years to maintain certification plus any extra CMEs to maintain lab accreditation.

o Optional: Group member of SDMS must attain 10 CMEs/ year

OTHER FUNCTIONS: The following are performed on an as needed basis:

This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-DM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained.

Performs functions other than described due to extenuating circumstances.

Abides by all UPH-DM and departmental policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current certification in both Echo and Vascular Sonography through the ARDMS or RCVT.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Certification eligible by the ARDMS or RCVT

o Graduate of a degree in cardiac sonography or vascular technology

o Graduate from 2 year allied health education program that is patient-care related or a BS with documented 12 months of full-time clinical ultrasound/ vascular experience

o Active certification from another certifying body.

Cross-training in Echo or Vascular ultrasound.

Certification must be attained within two years from the start date of cross-training.

Read, Write and Speak fluent English.

EXPERIENCE:

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

* Certification in both Cardiac and Vascular Sonography

* BLS Certified (or for new hires obtained within 90 days of start date)

* Valid Drivers License and car Insurance may be required
