Job Summary:


Responsible for providing nutrition care and education to patients.  Evaluate the patient's nutritional status, develop and implement nutritional care plans, assess nutrient requirements, recommend nutrition prescriptions, evaluate patient tolerance and effectiveness of nutritional care, and communicate nutritional data and information to the physicians and other health professionals.

Responsibilities:


Performs nutritional assessments and provides medical nutrition therapy as indicated by nutrition standards.


Provides nutrition education to patients/family members. Provides nutrition education to staff/nutrition interns and community.


Works collaboratively with other patient care disciplines in the implementation of patient education and plan of care.


Attends discharge planning meetings or patient rounds as appropriate.


Monitors nutrition for patients receiving tube feedings, TPN/PPN.


Assists with quality improvement for clinical nutrition services.


Requirements:


Education: Bachelor's Degree from Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) accredited institution with a major in nutrition plus AND approved internship; or Master's Degree plus AND approved work experience and/or internship


Experience: One year of experience preferred. Experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and rounding with a diverse interdisciplinary healthcare team preferred.


License, Registry, or Certification Required: AND Registered; South Carolina Dietetic Licensure; and must maintain 75 hours of continuing education every 5 years to maintain Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) status.


Special Training: Requires the ability to teach; analytical thinking; and ability to provide care to patients of all ages including infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients;  knowledge of clinical dietetics
