Texas Western Hospitality, and managing partner Western International, own and operate over thirty select service, full service and extended stay hotels all carrying Marriott, Holiday Inn and Hilton flags. The Maintenance Assistant will inspect and perform major and minor repairs on hotel equipment, thereby assuring the smooth operation of hotel mechanical functions. Reports any and all unusual conditions and situations which may endanger mechanical functions or operations of the hotel to the Chief Engineer.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Completes major and minor repairs to various hotel equipment as required. (This includes pending work requests.)
  2. Performs preventative maintenance checks on boilers, kitchen equipment, hotel equipment (including HVAC repairs) as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  3. Insures proper lighting and energy control in meeting rooms, public areas, and food & beverage areas.
  4. Maintains pool area (tests and vacuums pool daily, cleans skimmer baskets as required, drains and assures air blowers, jets and filter pumps work properly �?? needs to be pool certified within first three months of employment) and sport court. Cleans and maintains patio furniture.  Rectifies any unsafe conditions that may be present.
  5. Cleans and maintains Engineering storerooms, office area, and the shop.
  6. Assists guests who have equipment problems.
  7. Prepares spare parts inventory, assuring par levels are maintained.
  8. Makes keys and performs other engraving duties, as requested.
  9. Responds to give assistance in cases of emergency or danger.
  10. Assists with other projects as assigned by the Chief Engineer or General Manager, including but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, structural work, etc.

To do this kind of work, you must be able to:

  • Understand, learn, and follow instructions, including hotel and Engineering department policies.

  • Notice critical details and make necessary corrections.
  • Remain upright and move swiftly for extended periods of time.
  • Lift and carry heavy supplies. Move equipment and furniture.

  • Move fingers, hands and arms easily and quickly to handle things like tools, gauges, etc.

  • Work to precise measurements and keep accurate written records.
  • Distinguish colors, detect sounds and noises, and sense odors.
  • Change activities frequently and cope with interruptions.
  • Read and understand technical manuals.
  • Speak and write clearly.
  • Become pool certified within first three months of the position.
  • Be able to work any day of the week, at any hour.

Physical Demands:  Lift and carry up to 100# occasionally/frequently, climb stairs and ladders occasionally.  Balancing.  Stooping. Bending.  Crawling.  Kneeling.  Crouching.  Reaching.  Feeling.  Fingering.  Handling.  Seeing.  Distinguishing colors.  Hearing.  Smelling.  Deft touch.

Environmental Conditions:  Inside:  Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.  Works near noisy equipment, as well as close to hot pipes and equipment.  Subject to wide variations of temperature and humidity.  Works with electricity, paints, solvents, adhesives, lubricants, refrigerants, compressed gasses and water treatment chemicals.

Math Skills:  Add.  Subtract.  Multiply.  Divide.  Measure.

Language Skills:  Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to read technical manuals, and print and speak simple sentences.

      Data:  Comparing:  Understand manufacturers' instructions.  Analyze cause and effect relationships.  Report/rectify abnormal conditions.  Interpret gauge and instrument readings.

      People:  Serving:  Assist guests in operating guest room equipment.  Provide assistance in cases of emergency.

      Things:  Handling:  Work with precision.  Observe and evaluate conditions.   Manipulate tools and objects.  Choose proper items/tools to accomplish tasks.

Specific Vocational Preparation:   High school diploma or an equivalent occupationally significant combination of vocational education, apprentice training, in-plant training, on-the-job training, or essential experience in less responsible jobs. One to two years previous experience preferred.
