Manages all aspects of the program's objective which is to facilitate appropriate provider documentation of care delivery to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality, quality of care, quality outcomes and reimbursement. Conducts employee performance reviews and resolves Human Resource-related issues. Develops program short and long term goals and objectives. Participates in the development of broad communication to enhance awareness of the CDI program. Coordinates ongoing education for CDI staff, physician, nursing, and allied health professionals. Plans, administers, and monitors the program's quality and performance improvement program. Serves as professional leadership and role model for staff. Provides leadership for CDI program, assisting with personnel issues, scheduling, and evaluations of staff. Evaluates and supports staff structure, work flow and program processes to assure efficient and effective activities for CDI. Assures most up to date knowledge of trends and changes in CDI and works toward maintaining most current practices of CDI within goals and mission established for EH CDI program. Supports ongoing CDI initiatives and develops new strategies to further the mission of CDI. Develops and maintains EH CDI policies and guidelines in accordance with AHIMA Practice Briefs, Official Coding Guidelines, ACDIS standards and Coding Clinic. Assists and gives input to the director in evaluating employees. Educates and mentors new employees through the on-boarding process including initial CDI processes and concept training in conjunction with department preceptor. Provides classroom and one-on-one training for CDI staff and ongoing education related to new topics in CDI, clinical, coding and reimbursement, and regulatory changes. Works closely with coding and coding consultants to assure that CDI knows the most up-to-date changes in coding. Supports Clinical Documentation Specialist in technological updates and changes in software program and acts as support for problems. Provides ongoing education to medical staff (physicians, residents and affiliates) on the most current trends in documentation and compliance related to documentation. Assists in needs assessment to determine documentation opportunities and educates appropriate groups. Works one-on-one or in groups to help providers understand importance of proper documentation and outcomes based on that documentation. Provides documentation data to individual providers in order to help them see their own performance and opportunities for improvement. Monitors CDI compliance through quality audits and data analysis. Analyzes and evaluates clinical and operations systems and processes relative to inpatient reimbursement and quality statistics through chart review and other special study methods. Assists director in measuring program performance. Promotes CDI throughout the organization and looks for opportunity for CDI to participate with other initiatives within the organization. Promotes good morale and team spirit throughout CDI department encouraging staff and promoting their value and that of CDI at EH. Shares information and seeks ways to add value to both the customer and the team. Acts as professional role model and practices effective intercommunication skills, both written and spoken. Maintains own education of the most current trends in CDI, readily shares and educates staff and others. Helps to maintain excellent reputation of EH CDI Program among CDI peers nationally.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: RN, GA licensure. Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in acute care setting in Medical Surgical nursing, with at least two years of CDI or 3 years of equivalent coding experience. Must have a minimum of 3 years educational/managerial experience. Clinical Nurse Specialist strongly preferred; CCDS or CDIP preferred; Experience in education and/or organizational development preferred. Note: this is an on-campus position.
