About this job

The successful Security Officer candidate must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of a security officer. Job duties include, but are not limited to, being able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, driving a company vehicle, operating CCTV, and physically detaining a suspect. Must deliver exceptional customer service and communication skills.

JOB SUMMARY:

The qualified candidate will be responsible for patrolling and observing activities at and on the Crabtree Valley Mall Property and respond within prescribed guidelines associated with the role. The duties of a security officer include, but are not limited to:

  • Patrols assigned area on foot, bicycle or motor vehicle.
  • Prepares routine standardized reports.
  • Provides escorts as necessary.
  • Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, trespassing, or carrying prohibited items.
  • Performs periodic checks of emergency call boxes and lights to ensure proper functioning; reports all malfunctioning as required.
  • Assist a police officer in detaining a criminal suspect.
  • Detect and report any safety hazards on the property.
  • Radio and telephonic communications.
  • Operation of the fire alarm system.
  • Perform data entry on the records management system.
  • Maintain lost and found transactions.
  • Manage calls for service for all police and security personnel.
  • Create and distribute work order forms to appropriate divisions.
  • Disperse reports to citizens upon request.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified Security Officer Applicants will meet the following criteria:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • As a condition of employment, Employee must successfully complete a background investigation and post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills.
  • Verifiable work history.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Service in the active duty military, military reserves or National Guard.
  • Service in auxiliary police or police cadets.
  • Minimum of one year verifiable security related experience.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL and MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Constantly stand or walk on various surfaces.
  • Occasionally climb stairs, ramps and ladders.
  • Occasionally bend/twist at waist/kneed/neck to perform various duties.
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Constantly use both hands and arms in reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering, while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other related tasks.
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail is required.
  • Constant use of eyes to observe, read, interact with the public, co-workers, view security monitors: includes hand/eye coordination. (correctable to normal level)
  • Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to respond using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
  • Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
  • Be able to hear and understand at normal range levels.
  • Depending upon assignment may be exposed to inclement weather or be required to work in environments or under conditions that require the use of protective gear and devices and/or awareness of personal safety and safety of others.
  • Effectively speak, read and write English.
  • Must be able to frequently prepare reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting: may require computer skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

OTHER:

  • Have a reliable means of communication (i.e. home phone, cell phone).
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to and from work.
  • Must comply with CVSPD appearance standards.
  • Be able to work overtime and on various shifts as needed without advanced notice; including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Knowledge of portable fire extinguishers and their operation.
