Zaxby’s – How a great idea was hatched.

Step into the way-back machine and set the dials to 1990. Step into a world where Seinfeld isn’t a hit, Starbucks aren't on every corner, and cell phones were way too big to fit in your pocket. But something is missing. There is no Zaxby’s.

That’s because childhood pals Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley hadn’t invented it yet. They were still hanging out playing basketball at Zach’s, talkin’ trash and imagining it into being. They didn’t know much about the restaurant business. But they knew this much: the chicken they could find in Statesboro, Georgia, was okay, but not really fresh or zesty. And the local wing joints were good, but couldn’t touch the wing joints where they went to school. Plus, none of the local chicken places were fun or had any personality. So they dreamed up Zaxby’s. Right there. On the basketball court. Between Zach’s missed foul shots and Tony’s bricks from 3-point land. The rest, as they say, is chicken history.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direction and reports to their Area Development Manager
  • Exercises direct supervision of 3+ managers and 15-50 employees

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following;
  • Strive to enhance our guest experiences at every opportunity by satisfying and exceeding their expectations.
  • Increase sales and profit by building community relationships/partnerships and providing outstanding product and service.
  • Ensure an effective work schedule is posted each week.
  • Demonstrate effective interviewing skills for hiring only top performers.
  • Responsible for all levels of staffing and new hire orientations.
  • Ensure all training and certification processes are in place and 100% compliant.
  • Responsible to provide clear development plans and performance reviews for management staff.
  • Execute action plans through the use of systems, training, operation manuals and all other available resources.
  • Assist Area Development Managers and/or Market Development Manager in the execution of marketing plans.
  • Continually mentor AGM’s and AM’s in the operation of a Zaxby’s unit and prepare them for the future advancement.
  • Review daily numbers each day of work and coach and praise their results.
  • Provide leadership by generating excitement, enthusiasm, a positive mental attitude and commitment toward company objectives.
  • Maintain an attitude of flexibility that allows performance above and beyond the parameters of this position description.

Standard Hours:

Work a 48 hour work week minimum

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
  • Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Lifting a minimum 50 lbs. overhead
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
  • Making observations
  • Communicating with others
  • Reading and writing

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • In-store training program completed.
  • Online ZFI AM test passed with a 90% or above.
  • Online ZFI GM test passed with a 90% or above.
  • In-store ZFI Kitchen Demonstrative passed with a 90% or above.
  • Zax Inc. General Manager training program completed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment; work with computer and office equipment.
  • Restaurant environment; work with advanced kitchen and front-of-house operational equipment; hazardous conditions.
  • Essential job functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking or sitting for prolonged periods of time.

An alternative to fast food, Zaxby’s offers fresh, prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Zaxby’s most popular items are its fresh, hand-breaded Chicken Fingerz and Jumbo Buffalo Wings, smothered in a choice of sauces with names like Wimpy, Tongue Torch, Nuclear and Insane. The menu also offers innovative Zappetizers — Onion Peel, Tater Chips (home-style potato chips) and made-from-scratch Spicy Fried Mushrooms. Zaxby’s also features a variety of Party Platterz perfect for any family gathering or special occasion.

Zaxby’s also offers five salads, or Zalads: The House, The Blue, The Caesar, and The Chicken Salad Zalad. All of Zaxby’s Zalads offer more chicken, unique ingredients, such as French-fried onions, fresh veggies and juicy tomatoes and are larger than most salads offered elsewhere. Each is prepared with chicken, three kinds of lettuce, and shredded or crumbled cheese.

The quick casual restaurant, based in Athens, Ga.-based chain has boomed to more than 500 units in 13 Southeastern states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and continues to grow.

To manage a Zaxby’s unit toward the attainment of agreed upon sales and profit goals, working within the framework of company values and policies Receives direction and reports to their District Manager Exercises direct supervision of 3-5 managers and 15-50 employees

Responsibilities

  • Increase sales by providing outstanding product and service write an effective work schedule each week
  • Work lunch, dinner and weekends, monitoring quality of food and service Ensure restaurant is 100% staffed with quality Team Members
  • Ensure full implementation of new employee orientation and training program Purchase food, beverages and supplies as needed and oversee their preparation
  • Operate in accordance with established performance, profits and operating standards Supervise and motivate Team Members, Shift Managers and Assistant Managers
  • Have a good working knowledge of all equipment, and assume responsibility for preventive maintenance of a unit Communicate openly and honestly with subordinates, superiors, and all others Continually help develop Assistant Managers in the operation of an Zaxby’s unit and prepare them for General Manager responsibility
