JOB DESCRIPTION

Manager

It is the responsibility of management to oversee the operation of the restaurant as a whole. This entails every facet of operation, from hiring to counseling and retaining team members, purchasing to properly presenting food and greeting to ensuring guests receive an experience beyond the better burger.

When working shifts in the BOH, the manager is responsible for evaluating the daily preparation needs of the restaurant, ensuring that they are carefully carried out, with quality being the utmost standard.

A. Primary Responsibilities of a Burger 21 Manager include:

  • Adhering to and upholding the Burger 21 Culture, Vision and B isms as outlined in orientation and on the Burger 21 Culture Card, achieving our mission of providing an experience Beyond the Better Burger.
  • Seizing every opportunity to excite and uplift team members and guests every day.
  • Taking ownership in selecting, training, developing and retaining team members that value and uphold Burger 21’s mission, vision and B isms.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of a Culinary School or Hospitality Program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years as an Assistant Manager or Kitchen Manager for a fast-casual dining concept. Consideration is given for acceptable experience earned in the Burger 21 system.
  • Understands and embraces True Hospitality, Awesome Food and Quality.
  • Possesses a positive, professional and energetic attitude.
  • Is able and willing to work a flexible schedule, including days, night, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to write, analyze and evaluate operating reports, manuals and internal and external business correspondence; ability to use e-mail among other computer skills. Able to present information in an organized, accurate, clear and concise format.
  • ServSafe Food and Alcohol Safety certification required or applicable certification for Non-U.S. locations.

B. Qualification Requirements:

Cost Controls

  • Trains and develops team members in all areas of cost control.
  • Ensures all products are prepared and served according to company standards utilizing only authorized products and procedures. Updates and maintains appearance of merchandise and product displays as needed / required.
  • Immediately documents and reports repairs and maintenance issues.
  • Maximizes beverage costs, food inventory, ordering, receiving costs controls and procedures through training, monitoring, inventory controls and correct POS-pricing structures.
  • Analyzes and controls expenditures of restaurant to meet budgetary requirements.
  • Participates in P&L reviews with management team at the end of each period and creates individual action plans to adjust any discrepancies.

Overall Management:

  • Maintains favorable business relationships with peers, field team members, vendors and other company team members to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate.
  • Demonstrates effective project management, communication and follow-up skills at all times.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as required that affect the Burger 21 brand. z Ensures proper line checks are completed each day, using current line check tools. Shift Supervision
  • Supervises team members to deliver an experience Beyond the Better Burger to our guests
  • with products and services that meet and exceed our guest’s expectations.
  • Practices teamwork by communicating with and assisting all members of the management team.
  • Uses checklists to ensure proper set-up and close down of each shift.
  • Performs regular dining room checks and BOH line checks to ensure overall efficiency of restaurant operations.
  • Coaches and directs team members using effective verbal communication skills in support of Burger 21 Restaurants’ operating vision and principles.
  • Takes complete ownership-mentality of business to ensure daily successful execution of
  • Burger 21 brand and operations.

Administration

  • Ensures all financial and administrative reporting is accurate and submitted according to scheduled deadlines.
  • Ensures all cash-control procedures are implemented and followed by hourly team members.
  • Correctly handles all team members and guest incident reporting by utilizing appropriate forms and procedures.
  • Conducts safety inspections on a monthly basis and develops action plans with the management team relative to safety and sanitation issues.
  • Conducts scheduled performance evaluations as required two (2) times per year for hourly team members.
  • Organizes and updates all office notebooks, memos and other posted communications.
  • Supports, implements and executes local and national marketing initiatives.
  • Follows all state and federal guidelines in regards to food safety, labor regulations, or other mandated statutes required by law; keeps self informed of new procedures and laws.
  • Creates individual development plans (IDPs) / action plans for self to maximum performance and operations excellence.
  • Uses and supports all approved training programs and development processes to improve team members’ proficiencies.
  • Supports the restaurant’s succession-people-plan to encourage growth of team and to prevent shortages within team members and management.
  • Participates in weekly management meeting to set goals and review current projects.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Certified Opening Trainers; Certified Trainers; Hourly Team Members: Movers, Takers, Shakers and Culinary Crew.

 Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to type and to withstand staring at a computer monitor for long periods of time.
  • Must utilize all senses: taste, smell, sound, sight.
  • Must have the stamina to work 55-60 hours each week or more if needed; standing, bending, crawling, using hands to grasp, stoop, reach overhead, sit, walk and maintain fast pace for 10-12 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift small, medium and large objects up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. z Must be able to work a variety of shifts or varying schedule and / or hours as required.

Work Environment:

The Burger 21 Manager is exposed to moderate to high noise levels in a restaurant / food-

service environment 95% of the time and 5% in a meeting room / office environment with possible extreme heat and or wet, dry, humid conditions in addition to the following: gas, electric and other cooking equipment or utensils; sharp objects, cutters and knives; hot water, cold water, cleaning chemicals, possible harmful fumes or other airborne particles.

Travel:

Minimal travel as needed or required for work-related meetings and events.
