WHAT DO ASSOCIATES DO?

Be a part of a team. Associates are usually members of a team of workers who collaborate to ensure that the clients' needs are being met. Some possible job titles include Customer Service Associate, Sales Associate, and Operations Associate. In these types of jobs, you will be interacting with customers frequently, using your skills to help with sales, create a pleasant and clean environment, and making sure clients and customers enjoy their experience.

HOW MUCH DO ASSOCIATES MAKE?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, sales associates made a median income of $20,990 per year, or $10.09 and hour. Some sales jobs do offer commission based on sales, so your results may vary.

WHAT ARE THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS?

Many associate jobs require only a high school diploma or equivalent. While some jobs prefer experienced workers, many companies offer ongoing training programs for their employees.

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Customer Service: You are the first point of contact for your customers. Associates that are pleasant, friendly and communicative with customers will be well served in understandoing customer needs, explaining products and making sales.
  • Writing: You may be required to write sales reports, requests for materials, etc. Your ability to write well will help you in your career.
  • Math Skills: You will be handling paper money, credit cards and checks. Your ability to use math will help you make sure people get what they paid for and that each transaction is accurate.
  • Persistence: Not every customer will be a sale. Associates need to be able to stay positive and keep at their job until sales are made.
